Notes From the Designer:
When I made the decision to bring HELM to the United States from Istanbul, Turkey, the first American factory that I wanted to work with was in Maine. The transition was swift, and we were still working on certain custom American-made lasts for the brand, but our limitation ended up being a blessing in disguise because it resulted in our first U.S.-produced style, the Muller Blucher boot. First designed and released in a teak-colored, aniline-finished full-grain leather from S.B. Foot American tannery in Red Wing, Minnesota (founded in 1872), the boot was very well accepted and immediately took off in sales. To much acclaim – and because of so many customer requests – we decided to produce and release the Muller Brown Chromexcel® and also the Muller Black Chromexcel®, both uppers from Horween Leather Company in Chicago, Illinois (founded in 1905). All three colors of the Muller Blucher boot have stood the test of time and have remained top choices among the HELM Signature line. It’s been exciting to see customers make the Muller boot their own styles via our resoling program. And, if well taken care of, the uppers will not only last a lifetime but also practically be like a new boot every time they get a new sole. Through our custom resole program, you can pick any of the soles we use on any of the other HELM styles, and this option makes the boot look like a whole new style. One of my favorite parts of the design process is making a boot that is not only versatile, but also one that can live on with you through many seasons and multiple new wardrobes and styles. Ultimately designed with traditional American-made work boots in mind, the Muller Black transitions easily from pants at the office to denim on the street or dress casual at the bar. We’ve seen the Muller worn by men in suits and women in leggings, denim or a dress. A timeless classic meets a clean and modern profile – you can rest assured that the Muller Brown will sit in the HELM Signature line for years to come.
The Namesake:
The Muller is named after a couple of brothers who are dear friends of Joshua, the owner of HELM Boots. Michael and Kyle Muller are super-fun, artistic, hardworking dudes who make Joshua laugh as hard as anyone he’s ever met. When you get these three together, it gets plain rowdy, and the silliness is often out of control. Michael is a forming member of the awesome band BALMORHEA and is also a talented and well-known photographer. Kyle is a husband, father and a key player at LAND in Austin, Texas.
